Chief is in the House!

\
So it has been 3 years since we have had a dog in the house.  Corie and Kaiser were such a huge part of lives for so many years it was really hard to think about another dog.  Then time flies, life is easy, no extra mouth to feed, less vacuuming, easy to get away for the weekend.  But we also knew something was missing.  And Alek you constantly were asking for another dog, albeit you asked for a pug.  But daddy's dream was always a great dane.  So the research went on and then an opportunity came up and off to Delaware we went.

Sunday after Thanksgiving Daddy and I drove to Delaware, we dropped you guys off with Pop and we headed to Dover to meet a litter of great dane puppies, mainly one guy named Omen.  The puppies were all adorable as all puppies are, but Omen stood out. he was the biggest in the litter and he was the most chill.  He knew what to do to make his mark.  He curled up on my lap and mushed. Immediate mama's boy!  So we knew he was destined for our family.  He wasn't quite ready to come home, he heeded one more week with his mom and dad.  His dad Bennett is a big boy as you can see above.  That is the breeder's 11 yr old son and Big Ben weighs 150lbs!  Mama Bella is gorgeous all black and weighs 130 pounds!  So this guy has big genes!!

Plans were made for the following weekend to bring the little man home forever!  Daddy took you guys to Alek's basketbal game and you thought mommy had to work.  Brandy and I left at the crack of dawn and headed to DE to pick up Noni and all the dog crates she was lending us.  Then it was off to Dover.  All the puppies were sleeping when we got there, but we couldn't resist waking them up and pretty soon they were climbing all over Brandy.  I went over the paperwork with Courtney, we got a bag of his stuff, his papers and his food and we said good bye with promises to keep in touch especially with beach playdates this summer!  Noni sat in back with him for the first leg.  He was restless on the curvy back country roads but as soon as we hit the highway he was out.

We made a pitstop at Pop and Noni's to drop Noni off, let him go potty and meet Kiki and Farrah.  Kiki and him did well, Farrah was not a big fan of puppies, so we need to work on that.  We said our goodbyes and Aunt Brandy took over in the back.  Puppy was asleep in no time!  The rest of the drive we discussed other dog names.  The main ones we were thinking prior to getting home were Cash, Dakota and Saber.  Mommy's favortie was Cash, Daddy was on Saber.
We finallyarrived home and decided to bring him in front door. Daddy was waiting and had you guys in playroom.
Alek you came around the corner and I told you it was an early Christmas present. You seemed so confused and so shocked and it finally hit you--we have a dog! You went running to tell Maks.
The video is great, click here ove your reaction!

The puppy knew he was home by his reaction to you guys, he loved you immediately and seriously look how happy you guys are!!

Then once things settled, Alek you came over and kept hugging me thanking us for this, you were crying and saying you can't believe we finally have a dog!!  Then the discussions began for his name.

maks, as predicated, I said you would say, Blackie and you did!  Then you also said Steve, lets name him Steve, which had us and Brandy cracking up!!  We went back and forth and it came down to Cash and Chief.  We all agreed on Chief. Chief Kaiser Harkins.

And then our new routine reality began. We have a puppy. Potty training, chewing, feeding......
But Chief is the best!

Chief is eating so well, he is doing great with potty training, only a few accidents this week. He is doing great in his crate. Pretty much sleeps through the night.  He is such a sweetheart, I love mushing with him.  I even called him the baby which had daddy laughing.  Yes, he is my baby.

You guys are doing great with him, you are listening to our directions well especially with his eating, playing, walking.  Alek you took him for his first leash walk and he did great.  You guys both help me in the morning as we get ready for school and work.

It is exciting to come home to his cute face.  He has blended into this family in no time.  Chief is in the house!

Chief will be ruling this roost very soon, but since Chief will be huge, we have to keep him in check.

Look at those paws--can you say HUGE!! This is going to be one big boy!! He is already 22 pounds at 9 weeks!!

Checking out his first fire.  he like it, he loves being warm and cozy just like his daddy!

And this is what daddy was looking forward to , napping by the fire with his bud!!

It has been a long week for Chief and he is tuckered out!  We love having him home and look forward to lots of fun and adventure with him.  I am still trying to figure out how I would up with another boy in the house?!?!
Welcome to the Family Chief!!!
