The Tri Guys!

This June our school district help their first Iron Kids triathlon.
It was open to all K-6th students in our district.

The kids met twice a month after school at their triathlon club.  They learned about training, health eating habits, stretching, pacing yourself and competition.

Back in our neighborhood, the kids would do after school trainings, where they would do biking and running around our block.  Then saturday's the high school pool was open so the kids could practice their swimming.

As the day came close for the actual event, it looked like Alek wouldn't be able to participate as we had a baseball game scheduled for the same time. Well Maks didn't mind missing baseball, but there was no way Alek would. In the end it worked out as our game got moved to Sunday, so both our tri guys were able to compete.

It was held at the high school and I have to say it was so well run and well organized. We were so impressed.  Maks was in one of first groups to go off.  Kevin watched him in the pool and cheered him on and I waited to help him transition to his bike.  We couldn't help but laugh at how serious some of these parents were, it was comical yet sad.  I think Maks and I didn't pretty darn good getting his sneaks on and his helmut on and off he went on his bike.

Kevin stayed with him and I went in gym to stay with Alek as he was still waiting his turn.  He was pumped.  Alek is very competitive, always has been.  Maks really isn't, if he likes something he does it full force, but not out of any need to win or beat his opponent.  He just does his thing.  Kevin said Maks was riding his bike back at the last part of that course and he looked like he was out for a Sunday drive.  I would have loved to seen that!

Alek did great in swimming, he was first out of the pool in his group. His swimming really surprised me.  I try to work with him but I was feel like he doesn't listen to me.  Well I guess he really was listening, because his freestyle looked great!

He transitioned fast too with Daddy and Maks cheering him on!  Maks had finished and Kevin was so proud, he said Maks ran the entire way, didn't stop at all, which is so not Maks, he is not a big fan of running.  He did so well and was very excited to get his medal as he crossed the finish line.

After Alek took off on the bike, Maks and I headed to the stadium so we could cheer him on during the run.  Daddy stayed to help with the bike to run transition.

Alek came running hard into the stadium. We were all cheering.  Our neighbors who had also finished stayed and we were all screaming for Alek.  As he turned the first bend he slowed to a walk, we were cracking up, you could see him sucking in air.

But he would start running again and then would have to walk a minute.  We kept cheering for him to push it.
He was working hard.

He turned it on at the end and sprinted in.  He finished so hard, it was great.
All the kids of Valley View Way did great, we were so proud of them of all!!

They announced winners by grade only (we really thought it should have been grade and then boys and girls-but maybe next time!)  So they announced the kindergarten winners and what do you know, Maky 2nd place!!  We were all suprised and cheering. I was a little worried that Alek was going to be upset, but he was saying to the kids next to him, That's my brother! And when Maks walked back, he reached over and high fived him.

Afterwards, Maks said, I am going to share my trophy with Alek because he did good too.  God, I love these boys!!
True Champions!!
Way to go Tri Guys!!
