Psyched for School!

Let the 2011-2012 school year begin!!

The bags and supplies were packed, lunches requests and outfits picked out.
It was the first day of school!

Alek was headed off to begin 2nd grade and Maks to kindergarten.

Unfortunately it was a dreary rainy and messy first day of school, so our pictures had to be taken inside.

We headed to LL first to drop Maks off for his morning kindergarten there with Miss Beth. He would be the older one in the class this year, so Miss Beth let him know that she wanted him to be a leader this year. (For Maks it is a fine line between leadership and bossiness-so we will see what happens!).

Next we headed to GS to drop Alek at before school care. It was really cute when we walked in a couple of his buddies yelled his name and ran over and hugged him. I was loving the big smiles and the excitement in the room-so cute!

After our good byes I headed to work for a few hours.

IN the afternoon Kevin and I picked up Maks and headed to GS for his orientation and to meet his teacher and see his classroom. You can tell how proud he was and how excited to finally be going to Alek's school, the big school.

The next day would be his big day, his 1st full day of both classes and his first day taking the bus!

After orientation I took Maks for a special treat and we headed to the bakery to pick out whatever he wanted. We had taken Alek to Dairy Queen for his post orientation treat, but it was a little too cold and damp for ice cream

Maks took his time and decided to pick out cream donuts (a boy after my own heart). He asked if we could get one for Alek too as a surprise, what a sweetie.

So we headed home to wait for Alek. It was pouring as I waited at the bus stop for Alek. The bus routes were done differently this year and sadly it did not run smoothly. His 3:55 arrival time turned into 4:30! Obviously none of us were happy. Alek ran off the bus excitedly, he had a great day, he LOVED his new teacher (a little crush starting) and he was happy to see his friends. It was a great first day.

We talked to Alek about Maks taking the bus the next day and reminded him how he really needed to be an awesome big brother and make sure Maks was on the bus before it left school and to show in the ropes!

Maks was so excited Wednesday morning. I told him I would be back at lunch to watch him get on bus for GS. He was so excited when I arrived at LL. he had his back pack on and was watching for the bus. Driving over I was excited for him, nostalgic, but I thought, hey I have been through this before, I probably wouldn't be as emotional.

Boy was I wrong.

When the bus pulled up, Maks ran for the door, I had to slow him down to get a big hug and of course to get pictures. He hugged and kissed me good bye and headed for the bus. He climbed on, put his seatbelt on and waved with a huge smile on his face and they drove off and

then I lost it.

It hit me hard. This was my baby, this would be the last time EVER I would watch my child head off to kindergarten. It took awhile to compose myself in the car before I headed back to work. I smiled as I remember how proud, confident and ready for the world Maks was as he waved good bye. What an amazing little man!

I couldn't wait to see him get off the bus that afternoon!

Thankfully Wednesday was sunny, so our wait for the bus was a good wait. Still late but not as bad as the day before.

The bus pulled up and we watched the driver asking Maks to point out his parents and we were waving. He was so excited he forgot his backpack, she reminded him to grab it and off he came running into my arms with a smile ear to ear!

A few minutes later off walks Alek grinning and holding up Maks' lunch box which he had left on the seat. He was in full big brother role!

They both had a great day, and it was fun to watch their excitement and to listen about their days during dinner. I hope the excitement keeps up throughout the whole year!

So now I am the mother of a 2nd grader and kindergartner. So surreal.
