Not flesh of my flesh, Nor bone of my bone,
But still miraculously my own.
Never forget for a single minute,
You didn't grow under my heart - but in it
--- Fleur Conkling Heylinger

Two years ago today (August 16, 2004), in a court room in Kirov Russia, we became a family forever!! I can't believe it has been two years, it seems like yesterday. Time has flown and our little man has grown so much. He was 5 1/2 months old when he became Aleksandr Smith Harkins--he only had two teeth, he was drooling up a storm, rolling over and only sitting with support.
Today, he is 36.7 inches and 29 pounds of pure energy. He can out run me, which is kind of frightening, he is talking up a storm, loves to sing, is counting to 20, swimming under water, diving, playing baseball with daddy, and has been doing well on the potty training front. It is just amazing how fast they grow and change, somedays I wish I could keep him that tiny baby forever!! So today we celebrate our family day and eagerly anticipate the news of our newest family member. We are excited and nervous of all the changes in store, but truly look forward to welcoming a new little one into our lives and finally making Alek a big brother!!

The Gift of Life
I didn't give you the gift of life,
But in my heart I know.
The love I feel is deep and real,
As if it had been so.
For us to have each other
Is like a dream come true!
No, I didn't give you
The gift of life,
Life gave me the gift of you.

This is the place that we start.
Whatever you learn, whatever you know,
You've still got a home in our heart."
But still miraculously my own.

You did such a fantastic job on this!!! I am crying reading the wonderful poems with the narratives. He is one very lucky little boy. YOu can see the life in his eyes and the true joy he has given you. I cannot wait to see what is around the corner in September. What a gorgeous gorgeous family!
